Garden concert with Havsmörker

On July 3rd we are hosting an ambient concert in our gardens, with local musician Havsmörker. We have picnic blankets to borrow and will have food and bar service available. Come lay in the grass and experience a sonic tour of islands, fog and stone.

Havsmörker (AX/NO) explores tradition and distance in contemporary music. Anton Johansson and Axel Jonsson take a conceptual approach involving field recordings, analog synthesis, and the tiniest dissonant sounds of traditional instruments, to remind of the grand vulnerability of man and nature. The EP Dimma is released on Supertraditional Records (SWE) in Spring 2023. A documentary, The sliver of thunder – a silent film about sound was premiered for full houses at VERA filmfestival in Åland and at Hägerstensåsens community house in Stockholm.

Dimma is a Swedish word for fog, nowadays often used for dimming the lights in urban living rooms. However, in the old days, the lifestyle of maritime peasants called for a more nuanced terminology. Several concepts like tjocka, sjörök, and havsmörker were used to distinguish different kinds of visual phenomena related to mist and fog. Severity was a common denominator. All phenomena made visual navigation pointless at sea. Instead, the peasants had to find their way home, listening to sound and intuition.

Dunderflisan, literally the sliver of thunder, is a huge stone table located at Västra Mörskär, a remote island the middle of the Baltic Sea. Anxiously rocking round stones over the table creates a deep rumbling sound, which could travel far across the ocean. Listening to the thunder, lost fishermen could find their way back to their troubled families. In the forthcoming EP Dimma, we have documented the sounds of the forgotten stones and reconstructed them in our contemporary universe. Once again, the stone is singing, but what does it call for?

Accordingly, Dimma, is not a depiction of the visual. Quite the opposite, the record invites the confidence necessary to trust an exclusively audible perception of human distance and direction in havsmörkret, the darkness of the sea.
